A CT head or brain with contrast is a quick imaging test that takes detailed pictures of your brain and head using X-rays. Your doctor might order this scan if you're having symptoms like severe headaches, dizziness, vision problems, or after a head injury, or to help diagnose conditions like tumors, infections, or bleeding. During the procedure, you'll lie still on a table that slides into a donut-shaped scanner while it takes pictures, and you'll receive an injection of contrast dye through an IV to help certain structures show up more clearly on the images.
