Traction is a treatment where steady pulling force is applied to your body, usually to your spine or limbs, to help relieve pain, reduce pressure on nerves, or help realign bones and joints. Your doctor might recommend traction if you have conditions like a herniated disc, neck or back pain, or certain skeletal injuries where gentle stretching could provide relief. During the procedure, you'll be positioned on a special table or bed, and weights, pulleys, or a mechanical device will apply controlled pulling force to the affected area while you rest.
